The Young People’s collection contains children’s literature, children’s non-fiction, and children’s reference sources. It also houses copies of all Caldecott and Newbery award winners along with the recent Coretta Scott King award winners. The young people’s collection is arranged by the Dewey classification system and totals almost 15,000 items.
The Curriculum collection contains sample textbooks, teachers’ guides, and curriculum guides for elementary, middle, and high schools. There are a total of over 17,000 items in a variety of formats including books, CDs, curriculum kits, presentation books, activity cards, and pictures. Online selection aids are utilized in selecting resources that meet the core curriculum requirements for the State of Utah.
The collections are located on the lower level of the library in the northeast corner. The collections in the Stewart Library serve all current WSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Parents of academy students can purchase a community users card for $15 per year. They are available during library hours.
The Charter Library
The Stewart Library funds a small classroom library for the kindergarten classes. This library is only available to the children and teachers attending the charter academy. The circulation of the materials is handled by the academy along with any fines associated with lost or damaged materials. The selection of the books for the classroom library will be based on the core curriculum, teacher requests, reviews and award winners.
