catalog to find location and availability of books and other media
in Stewart Library. Most books are located on level
two of the library in the General Collection under the call numbers
beginning with PC4000 (Spanish language) and PQ6000-8000 (Spanish
literature) and PB1 (language learning).

Subject Searching:
Depending on the focus of your research, use some of the following
criteria and terms to focus your search in catalogs and databases:
- by subject: poetry, comedy, picaresque,
- by author: Allende, Cervantes
- by places: Spain, Latin America, Chile
- by time periods: Spain - History - 711-1516, Golden Age,
20th century
- by other issues: Cordoba (Spain) - Islamic Influences

For literary criticism,
use the term "Criticism" and the name of an author or
title in the catalog to find books analyzing specific author's works.
For example: enter criticism Cervantes as a general keyword
search in the catalog. Other useful subject headings may include:
Literature - History and Criticism, Rhetoric, Deconstruction, Feminist
Criticism, Formalism, and Literary Analysis.

nonfiction in magazines and journals. Search by author and
publication date to find review excerpts and references to reviews
in other publications.

DATABASES
To find articles
on your topic you need to use article databases, also known as periodical
indexes. Each database usually covers a group of subject related
journals. Search by subject or keyword in these indexes. Most
indexes are available from off campus.

- MLA International Bibliography is usually the best index for
researching literature and literary criticism topics. MLA provides
article reference for articles in literature, languages,
linguistics, and folklore in several languages, including Spanish,
back to 1963. Updated ten times per year.
- Arts
& Humanities Search - Citations from many of the world's
leading arts and humanities journals. 1980 - present, updates
weekly.

en Espanol - Search Ebscohost databases with a Spanish interface.
