Research Guide: International Business Resources

Scope:  This guide is a guide to print and electronic resources useful for locating information on international business topics.  These resources include print materials available in the Stewart Library, and electronic resources, some of which may be available only to WSU students, faculty, and staff.

  • AnnualReports.com  Search by company name, ticker symbol, exchange, sector, etc.
  • CAROL (Company Annual Reports Online)
    Provides access to corporate annual reports from Europe, Asia, and the U.S.  Reports can be downloaded in HTML and PDF formats. Many companies on the CAROL site also provide additional financial information. 
  • Wright Research Center
    Enter company name, ticker, or search alphabetically, by country, or by industry for company profiles of international companies or industries.
  • International Corporate Information 
    Offers research reports on companies from around the world featuring analysis of sales trends, profitability, stock performance, financial position, research and development expenditures, and dividends. The site also provides industry analysis and profiles of international companies which include a brief description of its activities, names of the top officers, address, phone number, stock chart, etc.

  • World Factbook 
    Gives a good general background of a country, including information on communications, defense, the economy, flags, maps, geography, the people, government, and transportation. 
  • Library of Congress Country Studies 
    Describes and analyzes political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions of foreign countries. This site focuses on the people who make up the society, their origins, beliefs, and values, their common interests, and the nature and extent of their involvement with national institutions, etc. Scroll down to the bottom of the main page to browse the table of contents by country.

    Presents information about countries' commercial environments.   • TWOK - The Web of Culture 
    A great resource for those interested in international business, as it's main focus is cross-cultural communications.  Includes information about gestures, languages, consulates, dictionaries, embassies, colors, currencies, time zones, and other useful information.  Choose the WorldSmart link to access cultural information.

    Comprehensive trade information, trade leads, and company databases. Presents lots of basic information for beginners.

  • NTDB (National Trade Databank)
    "The NTDB provides access to Country Commercial Guides, Market Research reports, Best Market reports and other programs. The International Trade Library is a comprehensive collection of over 40,000 documents related to international trade. All are full text searchable, as well as key word searchable by country or product."  Some of this database requires a password- ask at Reference Desk for help.
  • International Market Research Reports
    Reports prepared by the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration  provide detailed information on a commodity or industry within a single country. Often dated. 
  • TradePort
    Comprehensive trade information, trade leads, and company databases. Presents lots of basic information for beginners. Market research section includes information on developing an export plan and identifying and evaluating markets.
