Biological
Abstracts
Biological Abstracts®, produced by BIOSIS, is a complete collection
of bibliographic references covering life science and biomedical
research literature published from more than 4,000 journals internationally.
This database contains nearly 7.7 million archival records from
as far back as 1969, with more than 370,000 citations added each
year. 1996 - present

Chemical Abstracts Online (STN) covers all areas of chemistry, biochemistry
and chemical engineering. Includes journal articles, patents, technical
reports, books and conference proceedings. Links to fulltext ACS
publications. 1907 to present. Requires password and training. For
more information contact Reference.

ScienceDirect
College Edition: Physical Sciences Journals Collection
Science Direct College Edition is a database of full-text, high
quality journals published by Elsevier. The database consists of
3 different collections--Social & Behavioral Sciences, Physical
Sciences, and Health & Life Sciences. Citations & abstracts
are provided for pre- 2002 information and for Elsevier journals
the library does not subscribe to. 2002 - present.

Using Catalogs: Search the Stewart Library web catalog
to find books, videos, and journals available in the Library. Most
of the books on Chemistry are located on the top level of the library
in the General Collection under the call letter QD.
Interlibrary Loan:
If we do not own a particular book or article you need, we will
borrow it for you from another library through Interlibrary
Loan.
From Bookstores:
Order books online from Amazon Books
or Barnes and Noble.
Also use Books
in Print sources as needed.
Reference resources include encyclopedias, dictionaries and other
materials you use to "refer" to. Use these resources for
background information on a topic.

Steps to finding
primary research articles
- Define your search topic
- Find research articles the separation of fentanyl using hplc
- Identify keywords and synonymous terms
- fentanyl 84-72-2 (Chemical Abstracts registry number - found
in chemical catalogs and online)
- hplc, high performance liquid chromatography
- Use the truncation symbol (*) to search for various
word endings
- See the article database help screens for the truncation
symbol
- chromatog*, chromatograph*, chromatograph*
- Combine concepts using Boolean operators.
- OR => combines similar terms together into
one set of results
- (hplc or high performance liquid chromatography)
- (fentanyl or 84-72-2)
- AND => combines different concepts together
into one set
- hplc and fentanyl
- (hplc or high performance liquid chromatography ) and (fentanyl
or 84-72-2)
Note: when
combining "or" statements with "and" statements
use parentheses around the "or" statements
If you are in a database,
use the following steps to find the full-text of the article:
- If the article is available full-text in the database, click
on the HTML, PDF, Linked-Full Text
link to view the article.
- If the article is not available, click on the Find Full
Text link. Read the screen carefully to determine whether
the article is available in another database. If there is
a link to the article, click on it and the article should appear.
- If the Library does not have the journal listed in the reference,
the article may be requested through the InterLibrary Loan Office.
Request forms are available through the library's web site at
http://library.weber.edu/sas/ill.
If you only have the
reference to the article:
- Search the EJournals
list to determine if the journal/article is available electronically.
- Search under Title begins with - Infection
and Immunity
- Note the databases in which the journal is available
- Note the dates available for the journal in the databases
- Browse or search the selected database for the article
- InterLibrary
Loan: If the Library does not have the journal listed
in the reference, the article may be requested through the InterLibrary
Loan Office. Request forms are available through the library's
web site at http://library.weber.edu/sas/ill.
All bound journals
are located on the second floor of the Library. All current
unbound journal issues (approx. last 6 months) are located
in Current Periodicals on the main floor.
