Finding Articles

Online Journals Available at WSU

To determine whether the Stewart Library has electronic access to a specific journal, please check the Full Text Electronic Journals & Newspapers.

Article Databases

To find articles on a topic search article databases.  Article databases provide references, abstracts and sometimes the full article from journals, magazines, books, and other published literature. Each database usually covers a group of subject-related journals. To find a listing of databases to search, please use the Database Finder.  Choose a database and search by subject or keyword..  See Research Tips for information on how to search article databases.

Article Databases for Construction Management 

  • Academic Search Premier - General database containing some construction magazine articles.
  • Applied Science and Technology Full-text - References and some full-text articles of core English language journals and magazine articles in technology.
  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe - References and full text news articles from such magazines as the ENR - Engineering News Record and the Intermountain Contractor.  Select the Business Category - Industry and Market News - then select "Construction, metals and architecture news" from the pull down menu.

Finding Books

Using Catalogs:   

Search the Stewart Library Catalog to find books, videos, and journals available in the Library.

Interlibrary Loan: If we do not own a particular book or article you need, we will borrow it for you from another library through Interlibrary Loan.

From Bookstores: Order books online from Amazon Books or Barnes and Noble. Also use Books in Print sources as needed.

Reference resources include encyclopedias, dictionaries and other materials you use to "refer" to. Use these resources for background information on a topic.

Construction.com - Construction news, legislative updates and links to ENR, Design.build, Business Week, Sweets, Architectural Record and F.W. Dodge.  A McGraw Hill Company.

R.S. Means - Bookstore, construction online dictionary, and calculator (free registration required)

State of Utah - Occupational Safety and Health - Utah code and links to Federal OSHA and NIOSH web sites and other safety sites.

Yahoo -  Construction Links - A good place to start looking for construction web sites.

Research Tips

Search Strategy

When searching article databases, use the most specific search words.   Combine concepts and similar terms together with Boolean Logic Operators:

OR   to combine similar terms together:
            construction management technology or cmt

AND 
to combine different concepts together:
            building and cost estimating

Locating Articles from Database Searches

  • Use the Stewart Library Catalog and use the Alphabetical Browse search.  Search by "journal title" to determine if a journal, magazine or newspaper article is available at the WSU Library.  Current issues (~last six months) are located in Current Periodicals - Main Level, South Side.  Bound journals are located on the upper level of the Library in Library of Congress (LC) call number order. 
  • For journals and magazines not available at WSU, request copies of articles and books through the Library's Interlibrary Loan Service.
