Library and Web searching
skills are very important for success in college and for lifelong
learning. Information Literacy is just one of four parts of the
WSU Computer and Information
Literacy Requirement.
Students may complete
the Information Literacy part of this requirement
by registering for and passing one of the options below:
- Library Science
or TBE 1704 , The
Information Navigator. One credit hour, this
is an online, self paced course offered through through WSU Online
or as a face-to-face class with online reading and assignments
- Library Science
or BA 2704 , Information Resources in
the Business Disciplines. One credit hour, this
course is designed for Business majors and others with a strong
interest in business information.
- Library Science
2804, Information Resources in the Social
Sciences. One credit hour, this course is designed
for students with a strong interest in the social sciences.
- Information
Literacy Exam TBE TD 1504. This exam is an option
for students who have already acquired the skills taught in the
above courses. A half credit, one-hour exam,
this is part D of the WSU Computer and Information Literacy
Exam offered through the TBE Department.
- Please note: This exam is DIFFERENT from the TBE 1501,
1502 and 1503 exams! Students taking this exam will be tested
on most of the skills taught in the LIBS
1704 course.
- Students may study for the Information Literacy exam by
reviewing the tutorial.
- Students need to register for the TBE 1504 class. After
students are registered in TBE 1504 they may sign up for a
time to take the exam at http://programs.weber.edu/CIL/signup.htm.

Students
who have achieved basic information literacy skills are able
to:
1. Articulate
the value of information literacy for academic success and
beyond.
2. Demonstrate
an understanding of academic integrity including what constitutes
plagiarism, citing and fair use of copyrighted material.
3. Identify
criteria to critically evaluate, select and use information
for a particular information need or audience.
4. Demonstrate
an understanding of library collections and services in order
to use appropriate tools, resources, services and strategies
to access information and other resources from libraries and
library Web sites.
5. Identify and use the research
process to revise and refine search results for a research
product or project.
