USDA Economics and Statistics System  "The USDA Economics and Statistics System contains nearly 300 reports and datasets from the economics agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These materials cover U.S. and international agriculture and related topics. Most reports are text files that contain time-sensitive information. Most data sets are in spreadsheet format and include time-series data that are updated yearly."

National Agricultural Statistics  " American agriculture is continually counted, measured, priced, analyzed, and reported to provide the facts needed by people working throughout this vast industry.  Each year, the employees of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) conduct hundreds of surveys and prepare reports covering virtually every facet of U.S. agriculture -- production and supplies of food and fiber, prices paid and received by farmers, farm labor and wages, farm aspects of the industry. In addition, NASS's 45 State Statistical Offices (SSO's) publish data about many of the same topics for local audiences. NASS publications cover a wide range of subjects, from traditional crops, such as corn and wheat, to specialties, such as mushrooms and flowers; from calves born to hogs slaughtered; from agricultural prices to land in farms. The abundance of information produced has earned for NASS employees the title, 'The Fact Finders of Agriculture."

Economic Research Service   United States Department of Agriculture . The Economic Research Service (ERS) is the main source of economic information and research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.   

State of the Land -USDA   This site provides data and analysis on land use, soil erosion and soil quality, water quality, wetlands, and other issues regarding the conservation and use of natural resources.  Maps depict U.S. croplands, grazing lands, forest lands, and wetlands by acreage and their threats (e.g. soil erosion)

Foreign Agriculture Service  United States Department of Agriculture.  Monthly reports on foreign agriculture production, weather, and tariff quotas as well as forecasts of future crop production  Includes agricultural and horticultural commodities.

The State of Food and Agriculture  is  FAO's  (United Nations Food and Agriculture Division)  annual report on current developments affecting world agriculture. It reviews policy factors underlying recent agricultural performances at the world and regional levels. It also discusses issues of current or emerging interest, and presents each year an in-depth analysis of a selected topic of importance to world food and agriculture.

Statistical Abstract of the United States  Since 1878, the Statistical Abstract has been the single most authoritative source of facts about the people, institutions and economy of the country. This is a publication of the Census Bureau and is compiled from government and private sources and is an excellent place to start when looking for statistics.  This is an annual and covers a broad range of topics, mostly United States, but includes some international.   Most recent edition is located at the Reference Desk.  Older editions in Government Documents   C 3.134, Middle Level North.  Also available on CD-ROM (Reference Desk) &   Online   from 1878.

City and Country Data Book   Similar to the State and Metropolitan Area Data Book but covers all U.S. counties, cities with populations over 25,000, and places (town, boroughs, etc.) with a population of 2,500 or more. Includes coverage for states and regions (e.g. Northeast). County and City Extra   Commercial version of the US Census Bureau's County and City Data Book. Country Commercial Guides   The Country Commercial Guides (CCG) are prepared by US Embassy Staff once a year and contain information on the business and economic situation of foreign countries and the political climate as it affects U.S. business. Each CCG contains the same chapters, and an appendix, which include topics such as marketing, trade regulations, investment climate, and business travel.

Country at a Glance   United Nations site provides  flag, latitude & longitude, total area, total population, population density, capital city, languages, largest city (and its population), currency, UN membership date, GDP, GDP per capita, and contact info.

OECD Online  The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's Country Reports for 30 member countries. The original 20 members of the OECD are located in Western countries of Europe and North America. Next came Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Finland. More recently, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Korea and the Slovak Republic have joined.   The country reports provide economic surveys, statistics, and recommended web sites.

World Development Indicators 2005 "The World Development Indicators (WDI) is the World Bank's premier annual compilation of data about development. WDI 2001 includes approx. 800 indicators in 87 tables, organized in six sections: World View, People, Environment, Economy, States and Markets, and Global Links. The tables cover 148 economies and 14 country groups-with basic indicators for a further 59 economies.

Crime in the United States  - Uniform Crime Report.  The Uniform Crime Reporting Program is a nationwide, cooperative statistical effort of over 16,000 city, county, and state law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crimes brought to their attention.   Crime statistics are given for the United States, regions, states, counties, cities, towns, and college/university campuses. International Energy Annual  The International Energy Annual presents information and trends on world energy production and consumption for petroleum, natural gas, coal, and electricity. Production and consumption data are reported in standard units as well as British thermal units (Btu). Trade and reserves are shown for petroleum, natural gas, and coal. Data are provided on crude oil refining capacity and electricity installed capacity by type. Prices are included for selected
crude oils and for refined petroleum products in selected countries. Population and Gross Domestic Product data are also provided.

Residential Energy Consumption Survey  The RECS is a national statistical survey that collects energy-related data for occupied primary housing units. RECS was first conducted in 1978; the tenth, and most recent survey, was conducted in 1997. In the 1997 RECS, data were collected from a sample of 5,900 housing units statistically selected to represent the 101.5 million units in the United States. The 1997 data are available for the four Census regions, the nine Census divisions, and for the four most populous States--California, Florida, New York, and Texas.

Statistical Abstract of the United States   Since 1878, the Statistical Abstract has been the single most authoritative source of facts about the people, institutions and economy of the country. This is a publication of the Census Bureau and is compiled from government and private sources and is an excellent place to start when looking for statistics.  This is an annual and covers a broad range of topics, mostly United States, but includes some international.   Most recent edition is located at the Reference Desk.  Older editions in Government Documents.   AE 2.108/2, Middle Level North.   Online   from 1878.

National Election Studies  NES  from the University of Michigan  "NES conducts national surveys of the American electorate in presidential and midterm election years and carries out research and development work through pilot studies in odd-numbered years. The NES time-series now encompasses 23 biennial election studies spanning five decades."

Gallop Poll Organization  This site offers polls by general subject  poll releases , poll trends, social and economic indicator polls, and more. Many polls include background essays on the topic. Polls since 1997 are available here.

PollingReport.com  "An independent, nonpartisan resource on trends in American public opinion."  The web site for the bi-weekly newsletter Polling Report. This site provides polls from over 36 sources, including Gallup, Harris, Pew Research, and media organizations. Most polls go back to 1998.  Recent polls are listed in the center of the homepage.
