The DOJ requires that all state and federally funded materials meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to ensure equal access for all users. The deadline for meeting this requirement is April 26, 2026.
WSU Online and Stewart Library have partnered to assist faculty with document remediation, but some materials will not meet the criteria for remediation and WSU Online and the library do not have the staffing required to remediate every document. We can still help.
High-Quality Scans of Existing Documents
If you are working with WSU Online for document remediation, we can provide a clean, high-quality scan of a print resource that can be easier for WSU Online staff to remediate. We can scan resources owned by you or the Stewart Library.
Email ereserve@weber.edu to request resource scanning.
Finding Alternative Versions and Materials
If you cannot remediate existing documents, we can help you find alternatives.
- Search existing library collections to see if the library has access to the resources that you currently use in your course in an updated and accessible format.
- Find equivalent resources that are already accessible.
- Set up permalinks to library resources or use the library eReserve system to replace PDF documents uploaded to Canvas. Library resources often, but not always, meet accessibility standards. Disclaimer: Department of Justice (DOJ) regulations require all digital content to be compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, including third-party services such as publisher databases and electronic journals. If you have questions about accessibility compliance for library-licensed content, please contact our eReserve team.
- Purchase or license resources not already owned by the Stewart Library, when available. If the library can get a multi-user license for an eBook at a reasonable price, we can purchase these for our collection.
- Syllabus review service. We will provide you with a list of comparable resources among OER repositories and library eBooks that align with current course materials and course learning outcomes.

Using the Library eReserve System
Library eReserve is a beneficial tool within Canvas that allows you to organize texts and resources for your students to read. By using Library eReserve, you can:
- Ensure the readings you use are copyright compliant.
- Link to and host files, freeing up storage space on Canvas.
- Utilize links and files with greater accessibility than files uploaded to Canvas. As noted above, not all third party resources are compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Contact our eReserve team for assistance.
- Easily roll over reading lists between courses and semesters.
- View student engagement analytics individually by resource.
Contact ereserve@weber.edu with questions or to set up a Library eReserve training.
