Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) were originally established as two separate departments in the early 1970s. Special Collections was responsible for the rare books donated and collected by the library as well as the historical collections of Weber and Davis Counties. University Archives was the designated repository for the historical and intellectual records of Weber State University. In July 2023, the decision was made to merge the departments, along with Digital Collections, and create the combined SCUA department to provide a single service location for historical materials in the library.
